Delhi Police Public Library, Delhi 2021-2022
When we hear the word ‘Police Station’ – a disconcerting image comes to mind, after all, who has ever wanted to visit a police station. Delhi Police Public Library is a unique initiative by the South-East District Police started on 22nd February 2012 in association with Shikhar NGO to bridge the gap between the general public & police.
Located within the police station premises, the library aims to inculcate a habit of reading among children from underprivileged communities and slums in the district. It is the first of its kind Community Policing Initiative in India and has been running successfully for almost ten years now.
The Library also provides free of cost education to underprivileged children, free entrance exam coaching especially for girls and educational materials for UPSC, SSC and Law aspirants. They also organise various counselling sessions for students with senior officers and career counsellors. They have also started a new project – SHE TO SHAKTI intending to empower 50,000 girls and women through different social activities like personality development sessions, self-defence training, and free health camps.
