Surrender can evoke a quiet fear within us: <\/span>If I let go, what happens to me?<\/span><\/i> Over time, we construct an identity through our experiences, achievements, relationships, and the way others see us. This identity becomes familiar and deeply personal, creating an instinct to protect it. Beneath many of our choices lies a subtle desire to be seen, valued, understood, and recognised. Even when we serve or contribute sincerely, being acknowledged can quietly become part of what makes the contribution feel meaningful.<\/span><\/p>\n

This need for recognition appears across our lives. At work and in society, visibility is often treated as a measure of value, making being unseen feel like being insignificant. Even in service, we may give generously while carrying an unspoken expectation that our contribution will be noticed. When that recognition does not come, something within us feels disturbed. The disturbance reveals that our actions may be sincere, but our identity is still attached to being seen for them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bhakti enters precisely here. It does not ask us to strengthen or refine the identity we have constructed; it asks us to loosen our attachment to it. To contribute without claiming ownership, to serve without seeking validation, and to act without needing recognition. The fear is not truly about losing who we are\u2014it is about losing the confirmation of who we believe we are. As long as we need to be seen, surrender remains incomplete. Bhakti deepens when we can give, serve, and dissolve without waiting for anyone to notice.<\/span><\/p>\n
